[CHICKENS-101] Re: free range eggs

 

Know what you mean - I have a Rottie who 'runs' the place. She loves everyone. I do believe that she would 'love' to eat my chickens, however, the fact that it would make me unhappy stops her. Instead, she chases off coons and stray dogs and protects the hens just as if she were second in line to eat them. Haha - silly dog.

I currently have 8 laying hens, for their first laying season they have given me enough eggs for a family of four, plus eggs to give to my parents, and adult kids, plus I sell a few dozen a week for a buck a dozen to break even on feed. I feed laying mash, plus kitchen scraps, plus free range when weather permits and I'm home. (does that count as 'free' range??)
