Re: [CHICKENS-101] egg shells vs oyster shell

I can only tell you what I do and what works for me.  I collect the shells of the eggs we use and about twice a week I put them in the microwave for about 1 minute to make sure they are dry.  Then I run them through a small food grinder to make the shells fine.  I throw them out in their free range area and they come running.  It is a treat for them.   Susan in Conyers.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] egg shells vs oyster shell

I suppose this question might possible bring up disagreements which I'm cool with. I just want to peck (haha) your brains about the subject. I've read people feed their chicken egg shells or people feed oyster shell. Pro's and con's? I've read that their is more calcium in the egg shells or the chicken absorbs it better. I've also read to cook it but have also seen other sites that say not too. What say ye?

Thanks,
Tami
