The handling may be a problem. I don't see why a live animal would have to sit on a runway in a cold snap. They should be inside--it's a living being.
But that's my opinion, and worth all it costs.
Personally, I'm seeing a problem with the handling once the chick is "packed."

i have zero experience shipping chicks but i have shipped dogs (long stories because i don't breed dogs and i won't ship rescues), and what i've found is that if you call local information and for example, ask for the local number for ups, fed ex or continental at atlanta, you get a real person in atlanta and the thankfully few times i have had to do that an incredibly nice person has worked very hard to help get the dog thru without any trauma.
i would hope they would do the same thing for chicks at risk.
