Susan, I don't know if it the waxed paper would be a problem or not. I just learned from the school of hard knocks not to use shelf liner in brooder tubs. It has a negative affect on chicks. Someone suggested doing so and I thought it sounded good. Took me a bit to figure out what was going on with my chicks. I lost several good chicks before I put 2 and 2 together. I line my styrafoam incubators with foil before I bought two plastic liners.
