I doubt it was a cat either. Have you found feathers scattered around? Also, there would have been a comotion with the others if a cat grabbed the chicken. A FOX could slip in much more stealthier, but still the others would have yelled out. My guess is a hawk. They can grab an unsuspecting chicken that has wandered off by itself, out of sight of the others, lightening fast. We have such a problem with hawks, we literally have to have TWO people 'supervising' if we have alot of chickens out at the same time.Seriously, we are 'armed' with a broom and we have our 'eyes on the skys' if we have the chickens out in the evening.

One of my red splash sexlink pullets came up missing yesterday. I think it might have been a roaming cat I've seen hanging in the distance. I have yet to find any evidence of a murder but she did not come to roost last night. My other sexlink was there and they are normally stuck together like glue. Any advice on what to do with feral cats? I'd shoot it but it is never that still long enough. I just get glimpses of it. Has anyone had success trapping them? My chickens free range during the day and I like it that way. I didn't think I would be this sad over losing one of my girls but I am lol!
Thanks,
Em
