[CHICKENS-101] RE: Free Range Issues

Perfectly normal. Last year on a drive through Missouri I had to stop just to watch, in awe, what a dozen unattended turkeys were doing to a lovely garden. Like Sherman's March to the Sea, but with feathers.

We just had our first killer frost here, so as soon as I have picked the last peppers and green tomatoes for the freezer the girls will have free range in two of my garden plots. Keep them out of perennials, and I always remove them from garden areas 120 days before the first crops will be harvested.

Hello all
So, I started letting the girls out during the day, our dog sits out with them and keeps an eye on them :)
Well, that all got restricted back to the pen as they totally destroyed Mama's garden.
In my garden where I grow hops, beans, peas, tomatoes and artichokes, no problem, they scratched and ate and whatever, but in Mama's garden, they tore up everything, ripped strawberry plants out of the ground, completely uproot all of her flowers, just made a total mess.
So, is this normal? Or are my birds possessed and I need to call the priest?
