Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: coyotes

Hi,
I have tryed to trap coyotes and it is very very hard. A friend of ours catches them in snare traps but doesn't catch many of them. We have had the best luck calling them and sitting in a window or outside and waiting for them to come to us so we can shoot them.

Dear Jeannette,

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't write you back. I've had lots of visitors and happenings the last few days and lost track of all my good coyote emails. So anyway, YES, I did call the DNR and they would not do a trap for me, but said I could do one myself. They said I could get a booklet on how to do it at a place that sells hunting licenses.

So I was asking someone who is in the know at a local feed store and they said that set up a coyote trap is a lost art. Most people cannot successfully trap one on their own without a bit of folklore passed down from generation to generation. BUT he did know an older man who still had that art, and gave me his name and so I will set about calling him today. He is a retired DNR worker and maybe he would be willing to come and show us how to set one up.

And so I'll set about calling him today. Thanks for the reminder. And if that doesn't work I'll look around or call around about a niesense hunter (is that someone who will come and hunt a coyote for me?)

Meanwhile, every barn door and chicken coop door is locked tight every night here! Not taking any chances!

Thanks again for all your help!

Truly,

Britta
