Thanks Pete and Deb.
The problem is that he can't fly well. He can't steer himself and even in the house he just flies until he runs into something. The fact that he was giving the alert as he was flying and suddenly stopped makes me think that something got him right on. He is small, smaller than a pigeon and we have lots of huge crows and day before yesterday I spotted what I think was a sparrow hawk. He was sitting on the chicken fence.
I did have his cage outside all day and called for him all day and never heard another peep. Last night when I went to bed I missed his little voice saying "nite, nite?" It's going to be hard without him for a while because he talked so much and always at the right time. I will miss him yelling this morning for "Latte". Being it was 50 out last night and only expected to be 65 for the next week during the day he probably didn't survive the night.
