RE: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Thinking of getting chickens

Have you considered a goat to help clear that brush???  Nothing like a goat to clear the brambles and ivy!

Good luck with your preparation.  It will be SO worth it.  Chickens are wonderful cratures and every one has it’s own personality.  (ok, not ALL of them are wonderful, but most are!)

We moved our Silkies out to their new coop last night after getting it painted.  I am a terrible painter, but it is done.  We had to move them to the bottom grassy area and I bet they won’t walk up the ramp to get back inside, tonight.  These chickens have been sheltered from the real world too long.  They are really enjoying the grass and anything they find in it.

The roos are crowing up a storm…..trying to outcrow each other.  At least two of them are coming out of there, asap.

What's stopping me? Well, I'm still learning. Besides that, the shed is in my husband's scrap yard and it will have to be moved -- no small task. Today my daughters and I started clearing the area where we want to put it. We still have some brush that needs clearing there. Next, we will have to back-fill to make the area level, then my husband will have to move the shed and modify it for chickens (maybe add a window and one of those little chicken doors). Have I mentioned that my husband is not entirely enthusiastic about this whole chicken thing?
Even though I'm anxious to get the hens, it isn't something that I can jump right in on. So for now, I'm in education and prepare mode.
