Re: [CHICKENS-101] Moving a Nesting Turkey

Well Bonnie ...first thing is your hubby picked a poor time take a trip
:-( It is always a bad thing to move any hen and nest but just prior
to hatching could prove a disaster. I have heard of extremes like hens
moved and killing chicks...to ignoring them to all being just fine. If
you do decide to move the nest do it eat night and with as little noise/
light as possible. Use as large a cage as you can find .... Plus have
your caregiver watch her closely and remove chicks if they are in
danger. Good luck. Hope to hear good news when you return.

The eggs are due to start hatching on a day that my hubby has decided we are going to take a 3-day trip. I have someone coming over to take care of the flock, but they won't be here 24/7 like I would be. So, I thought about moving Mama, clutch, and nesting hay to a large cage. If I do this, will the hen lay back down on the nest? I am afraid that if I don't move them the chicks will fall out of the nest before someone can move them to the nursery I have set up. Thanks...Bonnie
