Actually I think it's the bugs from free ranging. I worked for a processing plant. You know that free range comercially just means they open the doors to the chicken house. Organic means no antibiotics or hormones. I saw first hand the disease commercial birds carry.

I think I read that commercial chicken farmers feed it (cooked) to encourage growth. When seI have to buy eggs, I choose those that are organic and the hens free ranging but I don't know what the rules are on chicken feed in the UK. Most ready made supermarket meals and prepacked chicken is neither organic or free range.
the feed I buy is organic and doesn't have anything added to it. years ago tartrazine used to be added to the hen food over here to make the yolks yellow - I thought as a child I was allergic to eggs but it was the tartrazine. it's amazing, nowadays, how much yellower my hens' eggs are than the commercial eggs - I think it's due to grass or corn, or both - does anyone know?
