Answers from my exjperience:
1. Take a tranqulizer or strong drink when they start pipping (making noise in the shell) and start to hatch! You will be sitting there for hours or running to check every few minutes.
2. Non medicated feed is best and healthiest from my experience. For the first 3-4 months. I use Southern States Start and Grow.
3. First 24 hours they will be ok without food. I give mine a shallow dish of water when they get dried off and fluffed out. You might have to put their beaks in the water the first time. Some people add a small amount of sugar, vitamins, etc. but I have not. Start food the next day.
4. Don't get overexcited and try to wash and dry them. The will look better in a few hours.
5. Keep an eye out for "pasty butt" and wash off their little butts with warm water if this occurs. You can also put a small amount of vaseline around their vents.
Hope you get all the help you need.
ENJOY! I received 100 straight run day old chicks from a hatchery that supports our local group this morning. All are safe and sound, hungry and thirsty and NOISY! I will be fostering them this week for a local event on Saturday. If you are interested in another group google the Atlanta Backyard Poultry Meetup Group. Good group and you don't have to live in Atlanta.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Chick questions
OK. We are expecting our first hatch in a couple of weeks. 6 eggs waiting to hatch. Now, here are my questions.
1- Should I use medicated or non-medicated chick food?
2- Do I need to do any kind of shots?
3- Is there anything else that would be suggested to do or not do? Remember, I have never had chicks before. I know absolutely nothing about them. Lol
Thanks for any help
