RE: [CHICKENS-101] Chick questions

Hi Valerie,

I only started hatching last year and still make mistakes.  My last hatch I drowned several viable keets and one poult by misting their eggs and they had too much fluid.

I have a hatch due this coming weekend.  19 turkey eggs and 21 guinea eggs.  I hope the hatch ration is better than 33% (like last time)

I do not use medicated feed, but I do use Sulmet in their water if I see any signs of coccidia.

I don’t vaccinate.  I have considered it, but haven’t yet.

            Good luck!

I have been selling guinea eggs and I am trading guinea eggs for peafowl eggs this week!  I can’t wait to have a few peafowl parading about the farm!

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Chick questions

OK. We are expecting our first hatch in a couple of weeks. 6 eggs waiting to hatch. Now, here are my questions.

1-      Should I use medicated or non-medicated chick food?

2-      Do I need to do any kind of shots?

3-      Is there anything else that would be suggested to do or not do? Remember, I have never had chicks before. I know absolutely nothing about them. Lol

Thanks for any help

Valerie in Va.
