[CHICKENS-101] Re: Roosters

 

If you are into "fresh & organic" there is nothing better than birds you have raised yourself; because you know pretty much everything they've eaten from chick to freezer. It's kind of hard at first if you've not been raised around chickens & killing day; but you can get used to doing it, & nothing you buy in the store will ever tatse as good as a pot of home raised Chicken & Dumplings...

If you have other neighbors who raise chickens & have killed them; you can often get them to do the killing on "Shares" meaning they get a portion of the birds processed...

I used to do this as a kid; a few times a year; helping neighbors; they'd often kill 100+ birds in a day or 2; for 100+ birds; I usually took home a large garbage bag full of chicken for our own freezer; it payed well in that it saved us alot of money on having to buy at the store...
