Southern Rocky Mountain cold waves come with a little warning too. We are in the middle of one now. It came in with a few days to get in a supply of fire wood and make sure there was enough feed, groceries, propane, etc that I wouldn't need to go anywhere. Fortunately it hasn't snowed very much, only about 2" a couple of times in the passed week. It has been windy, up to 50 mph, with highs in the low 20s and low in the high single digits. There hasn't been much sun for the passed 5 days either. Everything except for one of the outdoor hydrant is frozen solid. No heat for the chickens but they are all doing fine, except for a few frost bitten tips of large single comps. Vaseline didn't do the job. No toes frozen though. The sun is finely shining and the forecast is for mostly sunny and warming for the next few days. I hate it when it gets this cold and lasts this long!
