Our son at 16 was just too cool to be impressed by the poultry. They were just a source of work for him, so we rarely heard anything positive from him about the chickens or turkeys.
Imagine my surprise, one day, when he requested boiled eggs in his school lunch. Not just ANY eggs, though. He wanted a boiled turkey egg, standard hen’s egg and a tiny bantam egg. He said he had the best time unwrapping his eggs and sprinkling salt and pepper on them while his friends watched…….and in his words, “freaked out a little”. Despite living in the country, surrounded by farm after farm, you would be surprised how little interaction most kids have with farm animals…….and that includes chickens, turkeys, ducks, cows, horses, sheep, alpacas, etc.
