[CHICKENS-101] Really? and a progress report

I dislike saying it but the same can be said of one or two of the people on 'this' list. I guess it's just that there are those who love to monopolize the conversation and have an answer for every flipping query that anyone asks. It just gets old having to listen to the same 'I'm always right' viewpoint. There is one person I've had to block, my ears were beginning to bleed.

On a happier note, for those of you who wrote asking privately how I was getting on with my first ever hen project, the plastic playhouse/coop is almost finished; just having some trouble making the window 'plugs' fit properly - the perch is in place and the run (made from an arbor I found on sale at Lowe's) is now lying safely on it's side and covered with lattice and small hole chicken wire). Not being physically able to do the work myself, a friend has been coming over on her day off to build it for me and I 'supervise'. We laugh a lot and I've promised to name one of the hens Shirley after her. One more day should see it finished and ready for occupancy, yeah!

Food supplies are next and then I have to find two suitable hens. Can't wait. I was hoping to find two ex-battery hens but I can't find a source locally and I can't drive far. I'm thinking I will revert back to plan A which was two barred rocks.

ps. The stores are full of little Halloween straw bales. Would these be OK to use for bedding? I'm guessing that after Monday they'll be in the 50% off section. I love a bargain!

Laura, I answered Dean's post and posted that Old George is a dearly beloved ancient member, et...But then again you have to look at that Dean and I both show. George keeps commenting demeaning comment on show people in an unfavorable and demeaning manner. I am a show breeder. I care and I work hard at what I do, my birds win because they are quality. I also share my silkies with others often at my own cost and to be spoken about in such a way is upsetting, I can see why Dean responded the way he did. Respect works both ways.

I am fine until my friends and me are jumped and I am tired of it too. It has went on since she has joined and I agree it is tiresome. I get on to have fun after being with difficult but adorable youth all day. I enjoy Dean's and the Prof's posts. I enjoy George's posts too and so far to date have worked hard, very hard to ignore most of the negative comments on people who love the breed they show and work hard at promoting and preserving quality birds to the standard in their breeds. It's a two way street of respect. I took a lot of garbage before I became vocal and have even been staying off because it's not fun anymore when certain people on the group are attacking me and or giving advice that will KILL people's chickens, not help them.
Maybe I will just go on to other groups I've found that are active and don't allow the nastiness, the constant jabs, in the beginning that should have been stopped immediately, that is making me upset and that I can no longer be quiet about. I'll tell you this fact for sure, even if I leave this group, Sue's jabs to others won't stop, she'll just pick another target.
