LOL!!! They used to worm people twice a year; prevented many of today's health problems back then. I wonder why do not worm adults and children anymore? Hey Sue, Maybe we are fat because we are full of worms and the worms made our bodies make fat...

Good things to consider and certainly an issue. However, anything that kills worms is toxic and must be used with discrimination.
I think that your approach to take it slowly is a good idea. In the future, perhaps considering just using Ivermectin as an annual de-wormer would be more prudent. More 'bang for the buck' (so to speak) and less medication which is always a good thing.
At any rate, I hope your birds respond well and start fattening up. Maybe you should consider feeding them beer and Cheetos...? Works for me, I'm fat as a hog. Unfortunately, it appears that having worms is not an issue for me ;)
