I don't know if they still have their own breeding program, but Bob told us that they tried to breed for a longer lived chicken as it was important to them that after all the work they put into their chickens they didn't want to lose them at an early age. They did a lot of socializing with their birds and he said one thing he found very helpful in getting them to be less flighty was to hang balloons around their pens, balloons make all kinds of unpredictable movements and the chickens just get used to things moving all the time. the chickens are used to being on those tables and getting fed there, but I remember that once one got on the ground and she wasn't easy to catch.
