| Hi- I would advise you to consider it essential that the chickens be locked into their secure coop at night. I thought the run was secure, but a WEASEL got through a gap of 1.5 inches and killed them all. You may not think you have weasels there, but they were here in suburban Kansas City, so they are probably where you are, too. Make it a habit to close up your girls every night and let them out in the morning. Be sure there are no holes or gaps at all in their coop, and have food and water in there with them. The run should be secure against most varmints too, but during the day it's most likely to be dogs or hawks. Chickens are more fun if you make an effort to tame them while they're small and keep up the contact so they remain tame. If you let them free range, only do so when you are close by and aware of any dogs in the area. They will begin to lay at about 20 weeks, and that is so much fun! |
