[CHICKENS-101] New to board--intro and question

Hi. I'm still chickenless and trying to learn in order to stock our 16 acres maybe next spring.

Our 16 acres sits in Hubbard, TX, about 36 miles from Corsicana, Mexia, and Hillsboro, hot, dry country! Like well into 100's stretches at a time in the summer.

I hope to make a decent living to supplement my Hubby's income on the farm.

Some people say you can make a profit on chickens; some say you can't. Which is it?

If you are making a nice profit, would you mind sharing how? Broilers or eggs? What breeds? Pastured or not? Etc.

Thanks.
