Hi Debbie,
I buy from CFC, also. They opened a store in Ladysmith, which is a bit closer to us than Bealeton. I LOVE that place and the people there. Did you know they will deliver any number of bags for 75 cents a bag delivery charge? I usually have them deliver in the winter………they are great about rotating it in our feed shed and they even bring these cute little plastic pallets to keep it off the floor. When ordering 500 -1000 lbs of feed, it is definitely worth $7.50- $15.00 to let them deliver, rotate and stack it. We don’t even have to be home. Plus, we can’t do it for that amount because we always turn it into “doing lunch”. LOL!
One of the local alpaca farms has contracted with them to manufacture a Camelid formula in pellet form. The only drawback about that is that they have exclusive rights to sell it, so I would have to pick it up from their farm and CFC would not be delivering it. L
We buy their Camelid formula (using Norm Evans feed guideline) wihich is a partial pellet, partial textured………they love it all.
Today I tried to count chickens. I got up to 45 but some were moving too much, some were in the coops, and some were in the pasture and barn………so I am guessing we have a minimum of 55 chickens. TEN of these are roosters. (still have the NN Silkies…….haven’t taken them to Nick, yet) So, if a chicken needs to eat 5oz of food per day to lay an egg, (read this somewhere) that means for 45 hens and ten roosters we need to feed approx 17 lbs of food daily. That explains why we go through 50 lbs in three days! I just raised my price for eggs to $2.50 per doz. We are not even breaking even, yet. I need to charge more when they aren’t laying as many and charge less when they are in abundance, BUT…….I feel like I am jerking people around by changing the price up and down. ACK! I am not a very good business woman!
The weather here is MUCH milder today. I am sorry for the havoc a hurricane brings, but I am happy for the cooler weather - just hope we get some rain out of it.

Here in my neck of the woods we have a local co-op called CFC (formerly Culpeper Farmer's Co-op). http://www.cfcfarmhome.com/ 30 minutes from my house is their main store with their feed manufacturing directly behind it. A local store is a mile from my house. I buy only their feed and have never had a lick of trouble. Knowing its local, there is a very strong trust element.
