I have to admit that if mine had to stay in all day, it would be too crowded for them. I know they wouldn’t be content to sit on their 12” of perch space, quietly. (not trained to “sit-stay”)
We have been fortunate and have a lean-to area they can come under outside and they do. Even in the nasty snow, we shoveled a space for them and they came out…..most of them, anyway.
They also wander into the goat’s stall and under their lean-to where their hay bin is and they congregate without a license. Ah well, whatcha gonna do???
Our new coop is on the small side for 7 silkies, but two of the roosters are being transferred to another coop until I can see if they will survive amongst the current free ranging residents. I don’t want them to be bullied by the bigger roosters or even the little bantam roosters that think they are “all that”.
Sometimes I think we should have built ONE HUGE coop, but these little coops are cute and when not in use, we clean them out and close them up.
Our turkey coop is an XXXL doghouse with a hinged door on both ends. The roof comes off for cleaning but it is by no means meant for one person to handle. It is heavy! I believe the dimensions are 4’ x 4’. It is one of those Amish made wooden structures……..shingle roof, etc.

Good link. That goes along with what I've been told. That is 10 sq ft per hen split between the coop and the run. The farther south you go the less space you need in the coop. Up here where we seem to have never ending cold rain and summer falls on a Wednesday this year we need a little more coop space than chickens in
