My silkies hatched nineteen eggs together through hatch and all. I had five hens crowding the nest so when they started to hatch I took one hen out and put it in a crate in the coop and then took each chick as it hatched and put it in the crate with the one hen. When they were about four days old and pretty sturdy, I opened the crate up and the hens all shared keeping them warm. At night all five hens would cram into the crate being very careful not to squash the chicks.
BTW, the chicks are two months old now and all the hens are going broody again. I took one out today and put her in a crate and gave her the blue salmon favorolles eggs to hatch plus one silkie egg. I sure don't need more silkies but I wanted her to have at least one chick that I won't take from her.
