I heard that it works for dusting to an extent but once the birds ingest it when we mix it in their feed, it has no value because once the DE gets wet from any liquid inside the bird it does not have any value of sharp edges anymore. Anyone else hear this and is it true??

thx

========================
No, it is not true.  DE does not dissolve that quickly.  It is routinely used as an organic method of disposing of intestinal parasites in mammals.  Owners of horses and cattle have been known to feed DE to their livestock because it is still effective when excreted, and it kills fly larvae in the manure, cutting the fly problem in barns.  I used to sprinkle a handful on the grass after cleaning up after my dog, when I lived in rental property, and there were never any flies.  It has to be re-applied to garden plants after rain because it washes away into the soil, where the earthworms and snails will happily eat it without harm.  It can't kill aphids if it's down in the mud, where the aphids don't go.
