I lurk more than post anymore… but $100.00 for a tortoise is not uncommon around here. Years ago when we had the room we had about seven turtles and tortoises. (an African long neck water tortoise,3 Russian tortoises, 2 three toed box turtles, and a sulcata tortoise) I paid $125.00 for the sulcata tortoise I bought my husband. He was the size of a chicken egg (just a baby). He grew about four years and was the size of a dinner plate and my dog got ahold of him (and he didn’t make it… I will never forgive myself!!) they had tanks with lamps/lights for their eyes and heat pads inside and a play area outside. When we moved here the house was so small I had to rehome them due to lack of space and I put them in a turtle/tortoise reserve ran by a woman 150 miles away… If I ever have a house large enough to have them again I would in a heartbeat. I miss them… they have little personalities and are great fun for the kids… to buy a sulcata the size you are talking about over here would be hundreds… I would save up the $100.00 for a tortoise that size… that’s a great deal and they are too cool of animals not to have one! Once set up they aren’t really that hard to care for… chopping up veggies and fruits for them to eat (which we do to feed ourselves everyday) and scooping their sandy bedding to keep it clean every few days… water daily and change a lightbulb from time to time…. Not nearly time consuming as some pets we have had over the years… but then again I would live in a zoo if I could… but for now have a hobby farm with all sorts of farm animals to keep me occupied…J Congrats on the tortoise… Chelle
WOW that sounds like one big tortoise! How old is he? You should see all the stuff my freind has for her one, inside cage, heat lamps, fourescant lights, Outside area for sunny days etc. What's his name? Jane & Co.
