[CHICKENS-101] Re: Introducing new chickens to the flock

I guess it got lost in all the posts.

WARNING, DANGER, Michelle, It is never a good idea to bring adult chickens into
an existing flock. Chickens develop a flock immunity to virus infection. Unless
two flocks live very close together this immunity is not the same in both
flocks. Mixing them or bringing one chicken from one flock to the other can
bring a new virus and all could die. Baby chicks don't seem to have this problem
they have their own immunity and easily adapt to an existing flock. Having said
that.. Put the new chickens close to the old ones for a couple weeks before
letting them mingle in the run. You want to do that anyway to let them get use
to a new home. There will be some squabbling as a new pecking order is
established.
