The thought around here is that they don't WANT any official sighting/recording about them. The officials deny it completely. A bit scary, in light of the government forcing wolves on resients of the rural west and mid-west... and then saying you can't even shoot one until AFTER it's attacked your family, livestock, or pets. Maybe not even then. (Good book to read, which I just started--Wolves in Russia--interesting, and frightening, when you think of wolves beoing re-introduced around us!)

That's one of the explanations give here, too--except that there *were* wolves and cougars here during colonial times, which our forebears worked hard to eliminate for safety, both personal and economic. I sure don't want them back again...
