RE: [CHICKENS-101] Ivermectin

> Thank you, I use ivermectin for cattle for heartworm prevention, for six
dogs.

just FYI, the info that was posted about mixing it into drinking water is
not accurate. the 1 % injectiable ivermectin sold for cattle does not
dissolve in water. It can only be dissolved in propylene glycol. I know the
water based solution advice is posted all over the place, but it is
incorrect. If you want to mix ivermectin with water, you can use the sheep
drench, but it's not a 1 % solution, there is an Australian outlet that
sells the 1% oral ivermectin for horses that is also water soluable.

as far as dogs and the injectable ivermectin goes, most of the information
on the internet on that gives you directions on how much to use for
deworming livestock, if you want to use an amount comparable to what the
heartworm pills are sold by vets, you can't measure it accurately with a
syringe as the amount is so small

1 ml of the 1 % ivermectin is 10.000 mcg, a heartworm pill for a 100 lbs
dog is less than 300 mcg
0.1 ml of the 1% ivermectin is 1.000 mcg so for a 100 lbs dog it would be
less than 0.03 ml, you would have to dilute it with propylene glycol to
measure the dose accurately
