Parasite eggs reside in vegetation and soil so any poultry that is allowed range on grassy areas is going to be exposed. Since my birds free range, I de-worm prophylactically at least once a year, in the fall is best just before winter lock up and when egg production is falling off.
There are several products and methods used to de-worm, what I use is Ivermectin 1% (injectable) and give it orally. Ivermectin will kill internal as well as external parasites (mites, lice etc.). The only worm Ivermectin doesn't kill is tape worm, for that you need Droncit (praziquantel).
For internal round worms and external parasites:
Ivermectin 1%
1ml per 1 quart of water
Give as the only source of water for 2 days
Repeat in 7-10 days to kill any parasite eggs that may have hatched
For tapes:
Droncit 5-10mg/kg orally, once only. Because Droncit usually comes in a granulated form and is delivered differently than liquid wormers, I'd speak to the vet about dosing. I don't use Droncit prophylactically, I only use it when I see evidence of tapes. So far, I've only had to use it on wildlife; I've never seen tapes in my chickens.
Hope this helps ;)
