I am not questioning you to make you feel that way, I questioned because I didn't understand from your comment if you were giving a lighter dose or et... I will not answer any more questions or ask for more info, again.  You asked us...

Cathryn- I came here because I needed advice and guidance, and yet I constantly feel like I am put on the spot. I am NOT giving a "lighter dose" (I.e., underdosing) of the SAME dewormer, I was giving a different class of dewormer alltogether which eliminates any chance of causing resistance. Piperazine works differently than ivermectin and only works on adult roundworms by affecting their nervous system. Very little ofthedrug is actually absorbed by the animal. My goal was to empirically deworm for adult rounds, followup in a week or two with ivermectin and either do fecal floats quarterly or work out a rotating deworming schedule per a recent conversation with my avian vet. I know from ten years experience as a tech that larva is not always present, and negative fecal samples do not mean that your animal is free from worms. So, I have chosen to emperically deworm for now in light of the symptoms at hand and the probability that the close quarters that they were in before I acquired them caused a heavy worm load. That may change based on further observation/conversations/consult. I do not medicate my animals unnecessarily but I DO believe in better livingthrough chemistry and science. I have corrected their other husbandry issues, took your advice regarding a different brand of food, and if you have anything else to add I will gladly listen with an open mind, but I will not stand to be picked on and made to feel ignorant. I am here to learn, but cannot do that when I constantly feel as if I need to defend my every decision.

If you give a lighter dose you can build resistance to the wormer in the worms. Why would your chickens have so many worms at a young age?  Chickens who have proper nutrition develop an immunity to worms.  Your fecal test done on several of the chickens came back worms?
