The pullets obviously are at the bottom of the pecking order! What determines the pecking order in a flock is something that only the chickens know!
We've had two bantams out of 100+ hens who were at the top of the pecking order. We currently have a one bantam rooster who rules the roost. We have five Brahmas who were five of a batch of 25 chicks we got from a hatchery together. All 25 were raised together. Three years later we have close to 200 hens and those five Brahmas always roost together at night and hang out together during the day. How do they know they are all Brahmas?
These are the mysteries of chickens raising.
