We have a smaller hawk that flies over the turkey pens. Since there is no way it could pick up a meat bird or turkey, I stand by the pens until it goes away. I would defend my chickens if the large one or an eagle was coming to visit.
My unsocial silkie, who hides outside, hates being in the baby barn, hates me, hates everyone, hatched 5 chicks. Plus it looks like she has a chick talked thru a small hole where the fencing is over lapped from the buff pen and a chick from the cornish...
A bit later I tried to check the eggs in the white pen. My white hen Sassy and Missy both bit me!! They were so ferocious that their rooster who sits on eggs with them took off! Sassy took it farther than biting too. Up off her eggs, in the middle of the other hens growling, biting, and puffing/huffing, chasing me, biting my pant leg! I didn't even take an egg, I just wanted to feel the eggs to see how far they were along. Broody Stinkers.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Chicken "training" - Now Hawk sighting...update
We didnt see the hawk at all today.. and they spent most of the day going in and out as they pleased no dramas
... at one point they were ALL in, so we know that they ALL know how to get in if they want to... Going to go out here soon and close up the coop...
