Re: [CHICKENS-101] Problem, please help

Sue,  Wire your bait to the trip.  Works really well.  Don't laugh but KFC bones with the skin wired on work really well.  I caught a huge boar opossum recently by wiring the bait to the trip.  Between the woodchucks, cats, and large coons and opossums, it seems it's the only way I can catch anything.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Problem, please help

This has probably been covered before, haven't been on much, so I apologize for asking it again.

I have a possum problem. Got six of my chickens a couple of weeks ago. I have been sitting outside all night guarding ever since. I have also installed a spotlight as I know they don't like light.

Was able to borrow a large live trap. First night I set it, caught a young possum. Next two nights - food gone, trap locked and empty. I think she is big enough to keep the door from locking. I place the food at the far end but the dish is empty in the morning.  Don't want to use poison as I'm sure I would catch a cat - also wouldn't know if she was really gone.

Any ideas please?  This is a big trap - a little one I can see her keeping the door from locking, but I can't see how she can reach the food, spring the trap and still get out.

Thanks for any help.
