Hey Denise!  Good to meet a 'fellow Californian/Atascaderan"!  Well guess what!  Templeton had a group of "real" Native Americans come and so a real, traditional rain dance in the Templeton park last Saturday! Big-bang, we got an actual RAIN on Sunday!  Real water falling from the sky! It was amazing and almost strange. We were totally unprepared and had left several chicken feeders full of feed out in their runs, which of course got soaked. But it was a small sacrifice to pay for the rain! Everything is pretty wet!  We're hoping to see some blades of grass pop up.
 Yes, it's true, everyone has allowed their outside plants and grass to die. It is SO awful. But the water bills are still so high, it's crazy. What's happening in this area, and I know you know about this, is all the wineries are drilling HUGE wells and literally draining the whole valley dry for their vineyards.  The vineyards get a substantial break for their water usage, but the citizens get charged to death. There's much uproar in the city council meetings but unfortunately, all the council members have been completely bought off. What can we do? Refuse to buy water? Voting is a sham, so even threatening not to vote for them again is a joke.

I was born in Atasc and lived on Paso until 2012. Then we moved to NE WA. My family still lives down there. They talk about how terribly dry its been. Most people in Paso have let their lawns and landscaping die. The folks had huge water bills and barely used any outside water. Paying for that water pipeline has been expensive for Paso residents.

Up here we are way behind in snow. We've only had about 8 inches of snow and should have 2 feet.

That sounds just horrible. We have been having crystal blue skies for months now. Not one drop of rain. Warmish in the day time and COLD at night. ("cold" meaning 28 degrees!) All the trees are suffering from no rain. I don't think I could handle living in all that snow!! But it sure would be nice to get some rain here. Our local Atascadero lake is completely dried up and alot of plants are dying. Deb Buckler
