[CHICKENS-101] Help with feeding

Hello everyone.

I have a small flock of white hyaline laying hens. I have always feed just a cheap feed from our local co-op. However in my quest to always do better, to market a better egg, to lower costs, etc I have been finding a lot of research on soy free, GMO free, corn free, etc. I am wondering how going to these types of diets could improve egg quality, hen longevity, productivity, or just market a better egg. Even though the fed will be more expensive, if my hens lay strong for more than a year it may be better. Everyone it seems is getting into farm fresh eggs. I want to do better to have better customer loyalty. I Only have 20 hens, but it is a very enjoyable enterprise.

Does anyone have a simple recipe using sunflowers, alfalfa meal, egg shells, and any other readily available ingredients? What are some benefits to me and my hens for doing this? Anyone willing to mentor would be very much appreciated.

Tom
