Yes, thank you Cathryn. It appears that most of the damage was due to feathers being pulled out. Oy vey! I hate to even think what she was going through while my OWN dog was doing this to her. She is my best, most awesomely friendly, most laying-est hen...a real sport. Big Steve always said she laid 2 eggs/day to inspire the others. She was our very best hen in every way. What hurts the most was that it was my most trusted/best guard dog that did this to her the minute my back was turned. Lesson learned. You can train them and train them, but the instinct is always there. But everyone seems fine and quiet tonight, and for that I am thankful. A miss is as near as a mile, or so I'm told, and we've all learned a lot from this.
