Good news about Georgette.
Last night we ascertained that Georgette was eating and drinking and ambulating, but she was looking so sad. So we decided we had to make our move. It gets cold up here in the northeast, and I didn't want her to get any more acclimated to the indoor heat.
We went into work late today, to give it a chance to warm up a bit outside, and also to put her back out and supervise for a while to see what the other hens would do. She had been looking forlorn and her tail was straight down. She just kept looking out the back window at their penned in area in the garden and their coop, and of course, her sister hens.
So we brought her back outside, and her tail went right back up where it should be. She went straight under the barn (their favorite place to get out of the summer sun, and to take lovely dirt baths). The other girls went up to her and visited with her, welcomed her back, but nobody was aggressive.
So we felt like we could go in to work and so with heavy hearts, we left for the day, knowing it would be dark when we got home, and what had been done was done.
Soooooooooooooooooooooo.....long story short (too late, lol!) she is right up there in the coop and on the roost with her sisters. And even though I collected the eggs this morning, there was another one tonight. Now I'm not saying it was necessarily Georgette, but I'm guessing it probably was. What a trooper!!!
We're expecting a lovely Indian Summer this week, with temperatures actually approaching 60 on Thanksgiving. I think that should give her a chance to really get back on her feet.
I just want to thank everyone for all the support, encouragement, knowledge sharing and genuine kindness. We're so new at this, we have no idea what we're doing, but we're trying to do the right thing. I don't think we could have gotten through this without all the help from the good folks on this list.
Thanks again!!!
