Yep I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't saw it for myself but the bed sheet works.

I live trap skunks for people often and can offer a bit of advice. When approaching a trap, hold a bed sheet in front of you and approach sloooowly so as not to alarm the skunk causing it to spray. It's also a good idea to wear clothes you're not terribly fond of because you may have to dispose of them ;)
Once at the trap, slowly and carefully lay the bed sheet over it completely covering it. Covering wildlife traps lessens their stress and they will hunker down making them more manageable. Use the handle to pick up the trap keeping it covered while transporting in your car to another location.
To release, remove just a portion of the bed sheet to allow escape out the trap door. If the skunk is resistant to leave, tip the trap upside down and shake it to get it to depart.
Personally, I've never had a problem with skunks or coons exiting the trap, most all depart at warp speed. However, opossums are a bit clingy and may take some shaking to get them out.
Should you not be so lucky as to avoid spraying from skunks, here is a homemade recipe to 'de-skunk' yourself or your dogs.
One quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
One quarter cup baking soda
One teaspoon liquid dish soap
BTW, tomato juice does not work and just ends up with your bathroom looking like a crime scene ;)
