If you give a lighter dose you can build resistance to the wormer in the worms. Why would your chickens have so many worms at a young age?  Chickens who have proper nutrition develop an immunity to worms.  Your fecal test done on several of the chickens came back worms?

As I have explained before, I was afraid that my girls had a large worm load. Killing them all off at once could have cause more problems that it solved, toxicity from the dying worms and obstruction were both possibilities. Ivermectin and piperazine are both very safe medications and have been shown to cause very few side effects, even at ten times the dose needed to dispose of the worms. I would hardly call them poison, or give a second thought to using them when needed.

Why use both wormers when the ivermectim will take care of ascarids too? Wormers are poison and not to be used lightly.
