Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hazards of the USA

Cath, word on the street is they have been around for 400 million years.  And each one can live approx. 20 months.  That's almost 2 years!  No wonder there are huge populations!

Well, being a warm weather lover, and cold weather hater, I am willing to accept Palmetto Bugs, aka Freakin' Cockroaches in my life and world.  But just think how crowded Michigan would be if none of us were willing to put up with bugs & stuff!

Now fly traps - those I need to get, and also get my bug zapper plugged in outside somewhere.

Jane,  We do not have chigger, scorpians, black widows, and palmetto bugs in Michigan.  Thank heavens.  Our winters help keep them down south of us. Thank heavens.  I wonder if the huge populations of palmetto bugs have always been around or if it because of human development that they have such large populations?  Something for bed time reading. Don't you have anything similar? I know it sounds dumb, but I discourage any populations of flies/bugs et... around and in my barns.  They are intermediary hosts for worms for that infect chickens; maggots are too. I am going to get my fly traps set up outside this week. Cath
