Re: [CHICKENS-101] Oxalates and Nitrates

What did it say about the nettles, Yvonne?  We don't have them where I live but I've encountered them before and WOWSA!    I would be worried they might 'sensitize' the eggs and make my tummy burn!   Just because I think weird like that.

Does anyone know whether chickens are particulary sensitive to these qualities in plants? I was trying to find out whether it was safe to feed stinging nettles (urtica something-or-other) to my chickens and found that they shouldn't have beets and sorrel because of oxalates and nitrates, but it didn't list spinach which has nitrates. I didn't look at everything on the list, but it did start me to wondering. Thanks!

Yvonne
