Re: [CHICKENS-101] Chicken feed ain't cheap

Guessing what we know about certain companies, they use the cheapest they can get.  Remember that this company is also land o lakes. A huge conglomerate.  I wish they used dried apple products.  Barley hulls can cause problems because of the barbs on the hulls.  Beet pulp wouldn't be bad, but it is expensive... I caught my grain elevator in lower MI, (not the Amish Mill up north) adding ground up wheat hulls to their scratch.  There was a clump of it stuck together. Made me take a closer look at their scratch- we will not be buying anything but the Kent feed from them. My husband bought it this winter.  Amazing at all the ways people can think of to rip off their customers.

Roughage Products

Apple products (dried), barley hulls, beet pulp (dried), hulls (oat, peanut and rice)

$6 for a 50 lb. bag of feed???  I shudder to think what was in there to make it so cheap.  My Purina SunFresh label also had the phrase "roughage products" on it.  I read that phrase to my mother and she immediately said, "Sawdust."  It's so vague, it really could be sawdust.  I've heard of dog food companies that used ground-up peanut SHELLS as "roughage", or rather, filler.  What a nightmare.
