Re: [CHICKENS-101] Dust in Hatching and brooding room! What can be done?

I have asthma.  I have to move my chicks to barn brooders by the time they are a week old.  During the summer they go out in a day or two.  I tried to keep mine in longer last winter and almost put myself in the hospital.

All the high powered meds couldn't compete with the dust & dander. The incubator stays inside, but gets vacuumed out regularly as well as all areas around it.  The inside brooder box is in the mudroom and chicks go OUTSIDE...except for the Seramas.  They stay in for about 3 weeks :-)

Even with below zero (briefly, but bitter cold for WEEKS) temps, I can brood chicks fine in pens out in the barn, as long as they are free from drafts and have sufficient heat.

I have my Sportsman incubator and brooder pins in a back bedroom. The dust is horrible! I have chicks on pine shavings! The dust is so fine and covers everything! Cant be good for myself or the chicks to breath! What does everyone one else to do to deal with or rid themselves of this fine dust?
