I'm so sorry.
It is "so" hot, even for us down here in south Louisiana. When DH let
the birds back into one of the yards he had planted grass seed in, they
didn't eat it and the weeds have taken over creating a jungle like
environment. The birds are either staying in the coop during the day
where the fan blows or hiding in the jungle. At dusk, they all come in
to go up for the night. I've asked him to cut a few paths through the
jungle but to leave most of it for shade.
I think you may be on to something about the air conditioning,
especially since yours have all those feathers.
Big Bird (my newest chicken...Barred Rock) usually stays where she can
watch for me so she can beg to be held and she is even hiding in the
jungle. I never knew BR's were so friendly.
DH had to turn on the sprinklers for our citrus, blueberries, and
muscadines this afternoon because it's so dry.
