From my past exprience if getting more do it in large numbers 4 or more if small opration. With you have just 6 it does letthem pick on just one and don't just throw them in together make a partion so they can get used to each other. Some breeds are more agressive or it might have just been the chickens of that breed i had seem to be more agressive. I am using a old green house (small ) for the coop and a small yard attached to it. They are now let out to hunt around and eat what they can find. They get locked up each night because out in the country. also this keeps them from wondering to far off.

Hello, our family just purchased 6 chicks, all female for laying. They are still in their indoor heated containment, but I am very new to this and am hoping to find some good advice and suggestions here. Currently, my biggest worry is about how to construct a hen house/ coop in our back yard, havent gone round the library yet, hoping to find a book or two there, since everything online is terribly pricey for even some basic coop plans. im really just looking for some guidelines, and since im in upstate NY i need to make sure its well insulated for the winter.
also, is 6 a good number, or should we get a few more? ( and if we wait to get more later on, will they fight each other if not raised together?)any advice or suggestions are very much appreciated! thanks everyone!
