Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hatching Question

Assuming they were all put under the hens at the same time, I wouldn't wait much longer. They generally all hatch within 36 hours of the first one. The hen will have to leave the nest soon to find food for the chicks and would stop setting on any eggs that are left. If you want to keep them in the incubator for a day or too longer, it probably would not hurt anything,. It is unusual that an egg would develop that far under a broody hen and not hatch.

Four of the 14 eggs I had with broody hens have hatched. The chicks are up and about and appear to be quite healthy. The first one hatched on early Wednesday morning, 2 more hatched late Wednesday, and the fourth hatched Thursday morning. That's it.

I candled all the other eggs, and they all seem to have chicks in them, but I could detect no movement. How long should I wait before giving up on them? The hens have rolled 3 of the 10 out of the nest, which I assume means that they are not viable, but I put them in the incubator just in case.

Any information and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
