Re: [CHICKENS-101] Novice Chicken mama

i have had chickens in the house since day 1 of hatching and i loved it but during the winter when my daughter came down with a constant sinus infection i put them outside. i now have chicks in the house and a bantam hen that im still not sure what breed she is but we call her runt and she is the smallest that we got last year until we got the seramas. im getting turkeys in on the 11th and im excited because im thinking about doing a poultry day camp for spring break for our 4hers this year. and i can use them.

They get stinky quick, might not be too bad since you only have 4. I had nearly 40 chicks in my house during the cold spells this winter. I about lost it after a couple weeks. Ole George on here will tell you most chicks kept indoors will be outside in their coop at around 1 month. Because any longer than that and someone in the house starts threatening mutiny or divorce. Lol. Mine were inside 5 to 6 weeks. My oldest dd kept mentioning chick nuggets. Her not so subtle way of saying she disapproved of the chicks.
Once you are done having them inside they will still need to be kept in a draft free enclosed area like their coop or a greenhouse(someone else is doing this on here, great idea) until they are fully feathered and it warms up enough outside for them to go in their run.
What breeds did you get?
By the way welcome to the list, it's a blast and very informative. We have some goof balls, and some maybe crazies but they're what keeps life fun.
