Re: [CHICKENS-101] newbie with baby chicks

It has been 2 days with the oatmeal and the pasty butt doesn't seem any better... I saw on a web site that you can give them a little plain yogurt (which they won't go near) or some crushed up hard boiled egg (some like this and some don't)  I am using the Chick starter for feed, should I be mixing this with water or dry... I tried mixing a little water with a small batch but they seem to prefer the dry.  I am also putting 'sav-a chick' in their water.

I have been using a warm wet cloth to clean them off but it keeps coming back.

How long before I don't have to worry whether or not these little gals are going to make it?  4 of 5 seem ok, but there is 1 little gal that really has me worried!

Thanks!
Robin

I'd sprinkle it each time you feed, maybe a heaping teaspoonful.  If the pasty butts go away, I'd use a bit less and keep it up for a day or two then gradually lesson the amount.  Cathryn
