Hi Shawna,
Two of my neighbors have these. First time I saw them I thought some black chickens got caught in a paint ball war. Man, are they pretty! Sometimes, I get groups of them ranging thru my garden in the morning. Very pretty and very skiddish. They can take to the air like no other chicken I've ever seen. They can get loft up to 15 or more ft in the air and travel in the air at least 50 yards. My neighbors say they lay ok, most go broody every year and are a bit (I'll be nice here) assertive, especially the roosters. One neighbor said he got an average of 10 chicks per broody hen this year. So now he has around 40.
And I will tell you they are LOUD! They are about 250 yards from my house and the early morning honks and screaches, and what ever the other noises they make till he feeds them is so loud that I have to shut my windows to hear my TV. The roosters are perpetually off time starting at around 3 am and just keep going. I'm surprised they don't die of exhaustion :)
Hope you enjoy yours! I'll stick to my quiet black hens.
Renee
